2 Movies 1 Book

Watched two movies over the Weekend. One was Kanda Naal Muthal , a light hearted subject excellently handled by Priya. No wonder she was assisting Mani sir. Prassana and laila have done their part to perfection.

The other ws Thavamai Thavamirunthu the moving was nothing but Rajkiran. Excellent body language and dialogue delivery by him. Songs were good but the mives was a bit lenghty and let down towards the end. BGM was noteworthy. I think cheran spentdays with a slapstick to get the songs from Sabesh Murali.

Am currently Reading Yen Peyar Ramaseshan by Adhavan. I culd closely relate the background and the story line as i was also into hostel when i did my college. Great start for the week. Hope it goes through very well.

I have started watching Marma Desam in Raj TV every night. I have already seen this serial and read this story as novel Vittu Vidu karuppa by Indra Soundarrajan. I could still remember the ad they were making for the closing episode for this serial. People below 14 years should not see the episode and we were like all set up to see the final episode but it turned out to be an out and out blank episode as we could not understand the Multi Personality Disorder. Any way that was the first time i heard of this term MPD and could not appreciate it. But when i saw Beautiful mind out in college i picked up an interest in it and did an extensive study in this subject. I came across two very good novels of Sujatha. One was Aaa which deals about Auditory Hallucination and other was Pesum Bommaigal which deals about Human Cloning. Aaa was an excellent novel and i finished it at one go. It is the only novel till date i have completed like that. The first english novel i came across of MPD was Sydney Sheldon's Tell Me Your Dreams. Many incidents and dialogues of Anniyan would reflect Tell me Your Dreams and Aaa. Some of Sujatha's Dialogues in Aaa are used in Anniyan also, for instance the Court Scene.

Jambulingamae Jadathara

I had a chance to listen to two songs yeaterday. One was Vaa Vathiyarae from Bommalattam and other one was Jambulingamae Jadathara from movie Kasaethan Kadavulada. Vaa Vathiyarae was sung by Aachi Manorama . The sons is a perfect exaple how good a song can be with Madras tamil. Evenhough the lyrics contained words like Jaga , Naastha , Saalna the music was so good that it stood apart from all those songs which had madras tamil. Now the songs are having Madras tamil but the so called beat deafens your ears and so we could not enjoy the lyrics.

Jambulingame Jadathara - One song i would like the music directors to Remix. It has a rich music with a sattire lyrics. Sirkali Govindarajan has sung the song well. He is known for these type of genre songs like Kaasikku Pogum sanyasi from the film Chandrothayam , Ethir Neechal from the movie Ethir neechal . The expression of Thengai sreenivasan was too good.

Song of the day : Unnakenna Melae Nindrai from Simla Special . I was spwwchless ... still floating in my heart.

It seems after the sucess of Thiruppachi and Sivakasi Director perarasu has decided to have only name of the places in Tamil nadu as his film titles. His next film is Tirupathi with Ajit and he is also planning for Aranthangi with Vikram.

We can see movies like Aathur, Chinna Selam, Kanchipuram, Manamadurai, Gummidipoondi , Kovilpatti from Perarasu. Padathula ooru irukkalam antha padamae oora iruntha ( Sivaji Style !!! ) .

Below is the interview given by GopalGodse who accompanied Nathuram Godse in the assasination of Gandhi. He spent 18 years in jail and now lives in Pune.

TIME: What happened in January 1948?

Godse: On Jan. 20, Madanlal Pahwa exploded a bomb at Gandhi's prayer meeting in Delhi. It was 50 m away from Gandhi. [The other conspirators] all ran away from the place. Madanlal was caught there. Then there was a tension in our minds that we had to finish the task before the police caught us. Then Nathuram [Gopal's brother] took it on himself to do the thing. We only wanted destiny to help us -- meaning we should not be caught on the spot before he acted.

TIME: Why did you want to kill Gandhi?

Godse: Gandhi was a hypocrite. Even after the massacre of the Hindus by the Muslims, he was happy. The more the massacres of the Hindus, the taller his flag of secularism.

TIME: Did you ever see Gandhi?

Godse: Yes.

TIME: Did you attend his meetings?

Godse: Yes.

TIME: Can you explain how he created his mass following?

Godse: The credit goes to him for maneuvering the media. He captured the press. That was essential. How Gandhi walked, when he smiled, how he waved -- all these minor details that the people did not require were imposed upon them to create an atmosphere around Gandhi. And the more ignorant the masses, the more popular was Gandhi. So they always tried to keep the masses ignorant.

TIME: But surely it takes more than good publicity to create a Gandhi?

Godse: There is another thing. Generally in the Indian masses, people are attracted toward saintism. Gandhi was shrewd to use his saintdom for politics. After his death the government used him. The government knew that he was an enemy of Hindus, but they wanted to show that he was a staunch Hindu. So the first act they did was to put "Hey Ram" into Gandhi's dead mouth.

TIME: You mean that he did not say "Hey Ram" as he died?

Godse: No, he did not say it. You see, it was an automatic pistol. It had a magazine for nine bullets but there were actually seven at that time. And once you pull the trigger, within a second, all the seven bullets had passed. When these bullets pass through crucial points like the heart, consciousness is finished. You have no strength.
When Nathuram saw Gandhi was coming, he took out the pistol and folded his hands with the pistol inside it. There was one girl very close to Gandhi. He feared that he would hurt the girl. So he went forward and with his left hand pushed her aside and shot. It happened within one second. You see, there was a film and some Kingsley fellow had acted as Gandhi. Someone asked me whether Gandhi said, "Hey Ram." I said Kingsley did say it. But Gandhi did not. Because that was not a drama.

TIME: Many people think Gandhi deserved to be nominated TIME's Person of the Century. [He was one of two runners-up, after Albert Einstein.]

Godse: I name him the most cruel person for Hindus in India. The most cruel person! That is how I term him.

TIME: Is that why Gandhi had to die?

Godse: Yes. For months he was advising Hindus that they must never be angry with the Muslims. What sort of ahimsa (non-violence) is this? His principle of peace was bogus. In any free country, a person like him would be shot dead officially because he was encouraging the Muslims to kill Hindus.

TIME: But his philosophy was of turning the other cheek. He felt one person had to stop the cycle of violence...

Godse: The world does not work that way.

TIME: Is there anything that you admire about Gandhi?

Godse: Firstly, the mass awakening that Gandhi did. In our school days Gandhi was our idol. Secondly, he removed the fear of prison. He said it is different to go into prison for a theft and different to go in for satyagraha (civil disobedience). As youngsters, we had our enthusiasm, but we needed some channel. We took Gandhi to be our channel. We don't repent for that.

TIME: Did you not admire his principles of non-violence?

Godse: Non-violence is not a principle at all. He did not follow it. In politics you cannot follow non-violence. You cannot follow honesty. Every moment, you have to give a lie. Every moment you have to take a bullet in hand and kill someone. Why was he proved to be a hypocrite? Because he was in politics with his so-called principles. Is his non-violence followed anywhere? Not in the least. Nowhere.

TIME: What was the most difficult thing about killing Gandhi?

Godse: The greatest hurdle before us was not that of giving up our lives or going to the gallows. It was that we would be condemned both by the government and by the public. Because the public had been kept in the dark about what harm Gandhi had done to the nation. How he had fooled them!

TIME: Did the people condemn you?

Godse: Yes. People in general did. Because they had been kept ignorant.

Everone is happy today. I woke up on the first ring of my alarm and i didn't hit the snooze button and go back to sleep.The cell phone is happy today. I went on to pick up the newspaper and surprisingly the newspaper was in a proper position as normally it would be scattered around and i need to collect each paper and read it. I thought the paper boy was happy today. Then i called my home and my father picked up with a energetic greetings and he was excited. He is also happy today. I went on to take a bath and the geyser was damn fast . The geyser is also happy today. Later i went to the chai wala and he wished me with a great smile. I recieved a call from my manager and he informed that he would not be coming to office today. All are happy in the office. I could not figure it out why today is so wonderful that too in the early hours. Then i went on to read the newspaper in the tea shop. I cracked it. Sachin hits 93 in Nagpur ODI.

I made a vow not to use motorbikes or auto but to use PTC for the entire week i am staying in chennai and i am truly enjoying it. It was almost 3 years since i travelled in a local bus and after this long gap i have started enjoying it. Yeaterday in a crowded bus in mount road virtually i became conductor for a few minutes passing on the tickets back and forth.

I visited Higginbothams yeaterday and it was like heaven to see a huge collection under one roof and i loaded my collection with Sujatha, Balakumaran Jeyakathan and many more.

One of my old school friend has invited for her wedding and the invitation came through the group mail. Intrestingly the invitation was a website where they had pages for themselves and intresting info like how when where they met forst what did they talk and some facts about each other and jokes which they cracked. It was refreshing to see these kind of stuff and it struck me at first site. Am sure every one would have liked it. This is what kamal said in his latest interview in Hindu . Kamal was as usual at his best in the interview and he also gave a preview of Dasavatharam his latest projec with KS Ravikumar. Kamal KS Ravikumar Crazy mohan combo is my all time favourite. I ejoyed every dialogue of Avvai Shanmugi , Tenali and Panchatanthiram. Also he mentioned about Sujatha contributing to the script. All in all this seems to be the One to watch and enjoy.

Kamal was also mentioning that his role in Nayagan was not an extrodinary perfomance. God only knows what is extrodinary perfomance to Kamal.

Masala Mix a new indian snax introduced in Tokyo has Picture of Rajni and Meena from the film Muthu. Muthu was a mega hit in Japan and there were may fan club set up in japan and this one is Icing in the cake. I did enjoy Muthu when it was released but when i saw the Malayalam original version i was convinced how much commercial elements were added to the movie . AR Rehman music was a crazy hit that time and i could remember all the 5 songs from the movie taking all the position in Super hit muqabla , ah it countdown program those days.

I saw Manichitrathazh recently , the original flick of Chandramukhi and the same feeling was over my mind. Shobana was brilliant in that movie which got her National award that year for her. Now Rajni movie is decided i am seeing lot of speculations and rumors going on. Latest being Rajni new movie is titled Sivaji . His salary is 15 crores and the story about a person searching his look alikes . Don't know how it is going to be untill we see it on the screen .

RMKV silks has introduced 50 thousand colours silk saree and this is the current topic in our home. I liked RMKV silks with their innovative ideas and actaully when i went to the website i could see lot of Awards won by the people.

They have come up with a theme silk called Imayam in tribute to Sivaji Ganesan with pictures from the themes of his memorable movies

My choice of RMKV was the Cindrella pattu Pavadai which came for the last Diwali and the Ad was amazing with the small cute girl coming in beautiful pattu pavadai.

The Ad for the 50 thousand colour saree is Ok with all people choosing colour for Jyothika's wedding saree and finally she end up picking up this saree but i feel people like her only can afford to buy this saree.

I am sure during Diwali season in Ranganathan street before Saravana stores same saree would be cloned to make a cheaper version. But these designer sarees are not suitable for the family people first thing it is not affordable by all and second thing it is not easy to maintain it.

My take on the saree Lungi maathiri irruku !!!

Trivia : Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple has got 5415 sculptures in the temple alone. So many Gods!!!

Where is the Rising Yaar?

I know know why Ketan mehta has writen The Rising in the tagline and Mangal pandey as the tiltle instead of having Rising . The English tagline suits better for the movie The Ballad of Mangal Pandey . I went to the movie with loads and loads of expectation and was back with a little relief . With much hype and promotions the movie is all about Mangal pandey a loyal soldier serving for the British and his emotional translation against the British.

If the movie is taken in a point that the death of Mangal pandey triggered the Sepoy mutiny in india which is considerted as the first recorded revolt against the british then there is a justice to the film. The movie has a right balance of emotions sentiments friendship struggle and even an item song ( Rasiya ) that is all necessary for a bollywood movie but the story being set up around Mangal pandey who is considered to be the front runner for independence struggle and very few details about the incident is available makes the work of ketan mehta a very tough one.

Amir strikes gold with his perfomance and his homework for the movie is evident in most scenes. Long hair and mush suits him better and he is the only notable actor in the movie. Many characters did not have a big roles including Rani as Heera , Amisha Patel as jwala . The lady character who used to tell the plot to the brits was not convincing and the story slags down a bit there.

Toby stephens speaks fluent hindi in the film and the chemistry between amir and toby is going well in the movie. The songs Holi re and vari vari are notable rest other songs goes down in the movie. AR Rehman disappoints in many places in terms of back gound score .

The promos were exceptional for the movie and website is also amazing. Checkout the website as it provides some insight into the storyline and the actors .

I have started practising some crosswords . Tried some crosswords from The Hindu . I have solved some crosswords like name of the movie rajni acted as auto driver ( 5 Across ) but have not tried cryptic puzzles . Man it was very tough and i was almost broke out . I could not even think of more than two. My room mate came and went on to solve most at ease and when he explained me the solution i went mad and i am sure i would not have thought that possibilities ever in my lifetime. He told me it comes by practice. Lets see what happens? . I wanted to find out the person who coined that one and touch his feet !! .

Jack , Island and Zen

Weekend was shortened to one day as we had a compensatory working day on saturday for the Monsoon havoc. Watched Island on saturday night. Film was average with a plain story not much twist and a predictable end. Got some CD's Robin Williams Jack , Santosh Sivan's Terrorist , Ram Gopal Verma's Ab Tak Chappan. But could not watch all the movies on sunday.

Watched only Jack by Robin Williams where he plays the role of Jack a physically challenged boy ( He has the growth of 4 times the normal person of his age ) and he tries to go to school at the age of 10 where he has grown 40. He is probably one of the best actors in hollywood . With such an ease he was able to play down the expressions of a boy. The best part was when his teacher ( J Lo ) ask everyone in the class to write an essay on what would you like to become in the future and Jack writes Marriage and put an age of 28 and in the side line he puts a calculation of 28 * 4 = 112 and just strikes it.

Started with Zen and the Art of motorcycle maintenece . Started good hope it goes on fine.

Mohanlal is taking on Sanjeev Kumar role in the Sholay remake. Hope Mohanlal again comes to limelight after his good perfomence in Company.

Badly missed KBC2 on all three days and am looking forward to see bachan roaring again in the next week.

My parents are planning to put oonjal in our new house . The construction is almost complete and they are planning to move in october. Oonjal rolls me down the memory lane. We used to have one heavy oonjal in our house and that was brought down from the village from my grandfather's house. The oonjal was very heavy and it was almost the lifeline of our entire family. My father used to read newspaper in the morning mother used to watch serials in the afternoon seated in it and my sis used to play bus conductor using oonjal as the Bus. When my father returns from the office all the letters would be placed in Oonjal where he normally comes and sit after the dinner somedays marksheets were kept in the place and that was a terrible experience. We dumped it out when we moved to a flat but i am happy it is regaining its position. But time has changed My sis will not be playing bus conductor my father would not be asking marksheet but still the oonjal would have in it all the memories and so do i.

Really scared by seeing the eyes. Chandramukhi has created a record by running 100 days in all the 156 theatres released all over the world. Am planningto keep Laka Laka as my alarm tone so that i can get up at first ring itsef instead of getiing into snooze and hitting the sack again.

This Picture was taken in the MGR Memorial in Chennai very recently. People still believe they can hear his voice. I can't say anything !!!! am wordless but i count on the immense popularity he has gained over the period both as a demigod and a politician. For examples i will not be finding any difficulty as i can very well take my grandmother for it. She is such an ardent follwer of MGR. Once i remember taking her out for Padagotti starring MGR and Saroja Devi. We took a Balcony ticket and me my grand mom and my father went inside the theatre. Suddenly my grandmother got disappeared as she went and sat in the first few rows to have a close look at MGR in the screen. I am thinking if that would be the popularity he has gained among strict orthodox family members especially ladies think about the masses .

Tried using Blogdrive but though i could switch on here as many ppl are using Blogspot. Anyway am writing this one after reading loads and loads of blog and drawn into this world. Will keep postins as frequently as possible.
